22 lut 2021 · Once in the canyon you’ll pass the small town of Murphy Hot Springs, mainly a residential area without much tourism, and follow a narrow but well-maintained dirt road beside the river. At The Forks, where some nice primitive camping can be found, turn left into Jarbidge River canyon and continue gradually uphill.
The Jarbidge River joins with the West Fork Bruneau River to form the Bruneau River about 24 miles north of the Nevada border, just upstream of Indian Hot Springs. The Jarbidge River provides challenging whitewater for experienced boaters during the spring with stretches of class 5 and 6 difficulty.
The town of Murphy Hot Springs, Idaho, is located on the river's main tributary, the East Fork Jarbidge River, about two miles above the confluence of the streams (42°03′N 115°23′W); this is the last road access to the river canyon until the Bruneau River.
On a recent road trip through Northern Nevada, I finally made it to a place that's long eluded me: the Jarbidge Wilderness and Nevada's Matterhorn Mountain. This place captured my attention years ago during my other Nevada wanderings due to its extreme remoteness and pristine nature.
The road is paved until a few miles outside of Murphy Hot Springs. Be prepared to see antelope and incredible views of the Jarbidge Mountains. This road will take you to the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Jarbidge River.
Two-wheel drive vehicles are sufficient to reach the campground, located on the East Fork of the Jarbidge River about half a mile north of Murphy Hot Springs.
