2 kwi 2024 · The Moses who shepherds in this second beginning dominates the biblical narrative through the remainder of the Book of Exodus, indeed through the rest of the Pentateuch; his only rival, and ultimate superior, in narrative attention, as, of course, in other spheres, is God Himself.
The Israelites, after gathering in Rameses (Exodus 12:37), are led by Moses and Aaron to begin their exodus from Egypt at the start of Nisan 15 (sunset on April 11). Their first destination is Succoth (Numbers 33:5).
The third and last part of Moses' life is from the Exodus to his death at the age of 120 (Acts 7:36). This timeline begins with the Israelites crossing the Red Sea. It then covers all the major events in his life during the time he wandered the wilderness for forty years.
Structure. The structure of Exodus is divided into five parts. Chapters 1-15 detail Israel’s slavery in Egypt, God confronting Pharaoh through Moses, and Israel’s deliverance. Chapters 16-40 outline Israel’s grumbling, rebellion, and covenant at Sinai. Exodus 1-4: Israel’s Enslavement Under Pharaoh.
Moses comes down from the mountain, smashes the stone tablets in anger, and commands the Levites to massacre the unfaithful Israelites. God commands Moses to construct two new tablets. Moses ascends the mountain again, where God dictates the Ten Commandments for Moses to write on the tablets.
