Morven was settled in the midst of trees, swamp and woodlands, and was served by highways and railways , over two hundred years ago when the earliest settlers were here.

Formed out of the western section of Bladen County, Anson County was founded in 1750. The county’s namesake is George Anson, 1 st Baron Anson, the noted British admiral who circumnavigated the globe and oversaw the Royal Navy during the Seven Years’ War.
Morven was established in 1823 but destroyed during the Civil War. When the railroad arrived two miles west of the original settlement, Morven was reestablished west of the original settlement in its present location along U.S. Highway 52 south of Wadesboro.
