The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) is Arizona's Medicaid agency that offers health care programs to serve Arizona residents. AHCCCS provides medical insurance coverage to thousands of Arizonans each year, for which DES provides eligibility services.
As of December 2019, has enrolled 985,201 individuals in Medicaid and CHIP — a net increase of 57.29% since the first Marketplace Open Enrollment Period and related Medicaid program changes in October 2013.
State Plan for Medicaid. The Medicaid State Plan is a federally mandated contract between the State and the federal government, describing how Arizona’s Medicaid program is administered, and serving as the basis for Federal Financial Participation (FFP).
Coverage for Medicare Beneficiaries. Applicants for the above programs must be Arizona residents and either U.S. citizens or qualified immigrants. Applicants may need to provide documentation of U.S. Citizenship or immigrant status.
