Meals on Wheels Central Texas began in 1972 as an East Austin-based, grassroots organization staffed by only eight volunteers. Together, they cooked and delivered meals to 29 homebound older neighbors three times a week.
Meals on Wheels Texas is affiliated with Meals on Wheels America, the oldest and largest national organization supporting more than 5,000 community-based senior nutrition programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior hunger and isolation.
