Louis-Joseph Chevrolet was born on December 25, 1878, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a center of watchmaking in northwestern Switzerland. [1] He was the second child of Joseph-Félicien Chevrolet, a watchmaker, and Marie-Anne Angéline Mahon. [2] His family was originally from Bonfol, now in the canton of Jura.
Louis Joseph Chevrolet was a Swiss-American car racer who designed the first Chevrolet automobile and also founded the ‘Frontenac Motor Corporation’. He learned the basics of mechanics from his father, a watchmaker, and as a teenager used to build, repair, and race bicycles.
In 1921, with his other brother Arthur, he founded the Chevrolet Brothers Manufacturing Company, a company developing motors for the automotive and aviation industries. With the 1929 crisis nearing, Louis left his company to his brother and was hired in the Chevrolet factory in Detroit.
