Learn about the different types of basic logic gates, such as OR, AND, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR and XNOR, and their applications in digital systems. See the Boolean expressions and truth tables of each gate and how to convert them using De Morgan's theorem.
Learn the symbols, functions, and circuits of the most common logic gates used in digital electronics. See examples of NOT, OR, AND, NOR, NAND, XOR, and XNOR gates with transistors, diodes, and TTL chips.
Understanding the types and functions of basic logic gates is crucial for anyone involved in electronic circuit design and digital systems. These gates are characterized by their unique truth tables, which succinctly depict the relationship between inputs and outputs for all possible combinations.
Logic gates are devices that implement Boolean functions, i.e. it does a logic operation on one or more bits of input and gives a bit as an output. They are the basic building blocks of any digital system.
The table used to represent the boolean expression of a logic gate function is commonly called a Truth Table. A logic gate truth table shows each possible input combination to the gate or circuit with the resultant output depending upon the combination of these input (s).
The logic AND Function. The Logic AND Function function states that two or more events must occur together and at the same time for an output action to occur. The order in which these actions occur is unimportant as it does not affect the final result. For example, A & B = B & A.
