11 kwi 2011 · From 1921 through 1942, John built and raced his own sprint cars with amazing success. He was a popular figure in the early days at old Frontier Park in Cedar Rapids, which is now Hawkeye Downs. At one time, his homemade cars held track records in four states at the same time.
Mr. Gerber built a road speedster from a model 490 Chevrolet 4-cylin- der and drove it for the first time at St. Joseph, Missouri, taking second place on May 30, 1921. He was hooked and by 1923 he designed his first bob-tail, a Chevy with an Olds- mobile head and no tail.
23 lis 2015 · I heard stories of Scott Hills and his SR Fronty beating flathead V8s and keeping up with Riley ohv sprint cars. I said I would build a car if he(Scott Hills) built a motor to put in it. My uncle Paul Reichin and I decided the car needs to be light so john Gerber's car and noel bullocks car came to mind.
It was 100 years ago that mavericks such as John Gerber made a living driving, very advanced for their time, homemade race cars. These were not the large street cars with manufacturer backing but roaring machines that entertained the fans and paid good money at the track.
