The ACS is a real thing. Https://respond.census.gov/acs it's a monthly census survey that asks a lot of very detailed questions such as how many weeks you worked the last year, how you get to work, how many rooms are in your house/apartment, how much you pay for utilities, if grandparents and grandchildren live there etc.
