12 cze 2014 · As already noted, the most famous and perhaps most influential version of a moral argument for belief in God is found in Immanuel Kant (1788). Kant himself insisted that his argument was not a theoretical argument, but an argument grounded in practical reason.

In 1786, as Kant's philosophy became prominent in Germany, it remained marginal to the hottest philosophical issue of the day: the relationship between faith and reason. The preceding year had seen two posthumous biographies of Gotthold Lessing, the dominant intellectual presence in Germany for a generation.
