Mountain Home Department of Public Works, the City’s second largest department, includes six divisions: Airport, Development Services, Equipment Maintenance, Streets, Water and Wastewater. Development Services includes Building and Code Enforcement Services, Engineering Services and Planning & Zoning Services.

Surface water is scarce on the plateau and most water users utilize groundwater for municipal, irrigation, domestic, and industrial uses.
Mountain Home is the largest city and county seat of Elmore County, Idaho, United States. [3] The population was 15,979 in the 2020 census. The population in 2024 is projected to be 16,921. [4] It is the principal city of the Mountain Home Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Elmore County.
