To clarify, I sympathize with his experiences and understand why he & MOD did what they did. John likely felt that forming a gang was the only option for him: he lacked a clear sense of social identity and felt marginalized by his peers and community.
Nothing changed, all that happened was that MOD was no longer the top Hmong gang there and was replaced by the Asian Crips. Lucky for the MOD guys though cause they were losing that war with AC so the cops sweeping them all up might've actually saved some of them.
