PLDT Inc. was originally established on November 28, 1928, as the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company. It was formed through the merger of the Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Company and the Manila Telephone Company. The first telephone operation launched in Manila on February 1, 1930.
PLDT established the country's first long-distance and international calling, cellular networks, and communications satellite. In 1998, First Pacific Co. Ltd. acquired a stake in PLDT and brought innovations like DSL internet and partnerships to develop ICT infrastructure.
