27 paź 2018 · Higher education in Kenya, like in most other African countries, is a recent phenomenon spanning back to just a few decades but which has undergone several developments and challenges. The onset of higher education in Kenya can be traced back to 1956 when the Royal Technical College was established in Nairobi.
Commission for University Education present an overview of higher education in Kenya and to inform the public of the quality assurance mechanisms which have been put in place in the sector.
The report has three main chapters. Chapter two examines the financing situation of the Kenyan higher education system, presents the results of a scenario-building .
The Commission for University Education (CUE) was established by an Act of Parliament vide the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012. CUE is mandated to ensure the maintenance of standards, quality and relevance in all aspects of university education, training and research in Kenya.
Kenya has huge regional inequalities in all education outcomes. While most counties exceed 12 expected years of school, very low outcomes are concentrated in a few counties in the north and northeast of the country, in arid and semi-arid areas with EYS as low as 6.5 years.
