HEATS. Each event has one heat of girls followed by one heat of boys. ENTRIES. A swimmer/diver may compete in up to two individual events and two relays for a total of four events. SCORING. Relays first 3 finishing relays score: 1st – 8 points; 2nd – 4 points; 3rd – 2 points.
If you are new to High School swimming you will find it is different from club or summer league swimming. High School competition pools are short course pools, either 25 yards or 25 meters. There are eleven events per meet. One heat is held for each event; one for girls, one for boys, for a total of twenty-two events.

MEET ORDER OF EVENTS. As stated above, every meet follows a standard order of events. Each event consists of either one competitive stroke or all four competitive strokes: freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke. In addition, every race is a specific distance of 50 yards, 100 yards, 200 yards or 500 yards.
If you are new to high school swimming, you may find it a bit confusing. It’s unlike Summer, USA, or Y Swimming club meets. High school swim is a competitive team sport, structured like the collegiate sport. Points from each event are added together for each team to determine the meet scores.
Order of Events. Each swim meet that your child will participate in will have the same order of events. It is their responsibility to know what events they are swimming and when that event will be held. Below you will find the order of events. Please keep in mind that the girl’s events will precede the corresponding boy’s events.
Swimmers in high school are allowed to swim a max of 4 events. No more than 2 of which can be individual events. High School Swimming & Diving Order of Events: 1 – 200 Yard Medley Relay. 2 – 200 Yard Freestyle. 3 – 200 Yard Individual Medley. 4 – 50 Freestyle. 5 – 1 Meter Diving. 6 – 100 Yard Butterfly. 7 – 100 Yard Freestyle.
