The park's trails offer visitors scenic views of the largest waterfall in middle Georgia on the Towaliga River, cascading over 135 feet (41 m) to the base. Historic hikes lead to the foundation of the old grist mill and ruins of the old powerhouse.
Located northwest of Macon, High Falls State Park is named for tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River. Boat rental, ramps and fishing docks provide easy access to the park’s lake, known as one of Georgia’s top fishing spots for hybrid and white bass.

The first hike I did was along the falls, which is in a figure 8. The lower part is along the water with a number of beautiful vistas, but it’s rocky & has many roots so it’s more treacherous than the upper path.
High Falls State Park is a popular warm-weather outdoor destination, well-loved for its glassy lake, broad spillway dam and an enormous, multi-tiered waterfall. Nestled in a shady forest just north of Macon, the Towaliga River tumbles through the park, churning in whitewater and free-falling cascades over massive rocks and boulders.
Follow this trail along the side of the largest waterfall south of Atlanta, which cascades with tumbling whitewater over a span of 135 feet. This double looped trail takes you through a rocky forest alongside the banks of the river downstream of the falls. The forest floor is littered with boulders along the trail.
Just one hour south of Atlanta, located northwest of Macon, High Falls State Park is a hidden gem you’ve got to see. This park is just a few miles off Interstate 75, so it’s easy to get to and makes a great side trip for travelers on their way to Florida. High Falls State Park is named for the tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River.
