The Lucette Diana Kensack statue, often referred to as Paul Bunyan's sweetheart, was erected in Hackensack, Minnesota in 1991 as a tribute to the legendary folk hero’s fictional wife. Standing 17 feet tall, the statue celebrates local lore and the enduring legacy of Paul Bunyan, a symbol of North American logging culture.
Hackensack is located along the eastern shore of Birch Lake and maintains an asphalt boat ramp for lake access. Other lakes in the area include Pleasant Lake and Ten Mile Lake, the second-deepest natural lake in the state.
The first Sweetheart Days Festival was held on June 27th 1952, honoring "The Lady by the Lake" Lucette Diana Kensack. A few years later the date was changed to include the second Wednesday in July and the little town of Hackensack has been celebrating ever since.
