Do you need a DMV form?
If you need to register a vehicle for use on California roadways, waterways, or trailways, you’ve come to the right place. If you bought from a licensed dealer, certain registration tasks may be taken care of for you. Find out what dealers are responsible for, and what you need to do.
Visit a local CA DMV office. Present proof of ownership and a smog certificate. Provide proof of your ID and car insurance. Complete an Application for Title or Registration (Form REG 343). Pay the $74 registration fee, $32 CHP fee, Transportation Improvement fee, title fees, and taxes.
Most customers can renew their registration online. You can even pay by check or card and save the stamp! You can also call us and renew over the phone at 1-800-777-0133 – also saving a stamp. And if you must renew by mail and have time to wait you can mail to: DMV Renewal. PO Box 942897. Sacramento, CA 94269-0001.
To get started, you need to fill out the Application for Title or Registration (Form REG 343). If you drive a commercial vehicle, you will also need to complete a Declaration of Gross Vehicle Weight/Combined Gross Vehicle Weight (Form REG 4008).
index-ready This application form is used for vehicles being registered for the first time and for nonresident vehicles brought into California. The completed and signed application must be submitted with the appropriate fees within 20 days of the date the vehicle is first operated in California.
