Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck[a] (born 21 February 1980) is King of Bhutan. [3] After his father Jigme Singye Wangchuck abdicated the throne, he became the monarch on 9 December 2006. A public coronation ceremony was held on 6 November 2008, a year that marked 100 years of monarchy in Bhutan.
