The cricoid cartilage / ˌkraɪkɔɪd ˈkɑːrtɪlɪdʒ /, or simply cricoid (from the Greek krikoeides meaning "ring-shaped") or cricoid ring, is the only complete ring of cartilage around the trachea.

The Cricoid Cartilage (cartilago cricoidea) is smaller, but thicker and stronger than the thyroid, and forms the lower and posterior parts of the wall of the larynx. It consists of two parts: a posterior quadrate lamina, and a narrow anterior arch, one-fourth or one-fifth of the depth of the lamina.
It is shaped like a signet ring with a broad lamina of cricoid cartilage posteriorly and a much slimmer arch of cartilage anteriorly completing the circle. The lamina has two depressions separated by a vertical ridge.
The cricoid has articular facets for the inferior cornua of the thyroid cartilage and the inferior surfaces or bases of the arytenoid cartilages.
