The NNAAP consists of two components: a written or oral portion and a skills demonstration portion. The oral portion is offered in English and Spanish. Each candidate must successfully complete both components of the exam before a state can add their name to the state nurse aide registry.

The Nurse Aide Registry provides a list of all Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) in Ohio. The registry also maintains records of those nurse aides who have had a finding of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property against them.
NATCEP training is required to become a State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA). Federal and state regulations establish training and testing requirements for all nurse aides who work in Medicare/Medicaid certified long-term care facilities.
The majority of nurse aides on the registry become certified by successfully completing a NYS-approved nursing home nurse aide training program and passing the Competency Examination. The exam consists of two parts: 1) a Clinical Skills exam (practical portion); and 2) a Written (oral) exam.
