Brownies are the section in the Girl Guides (or in the United States, Girl Scouts) organisation for girls aged eight years old to twelve years old. [1] Exact age limits are slightly different in each organisation.
Begin each level of Girl Scouts with “Girl Scout”-i.e., Girl Scout Daisy, Girl Scout Brownie, etc. Girl Scouts as an organization is always singular, i.e., “Girl Scouts is the leading expert on girls’ healthy development.”
A Girl Scout Brownie is in second or third grade of elementary school—a fantastic time to become a Girl Scout! Brownies learn how the world works, fall in love with the great outdoors, and share their interests—from bugs to ballet—with a small group of true friends.

But the girls who were Rosebuds didn’t like their name, so they asked Lord Baden-Powell (the founder of Boy Scouting, which later inspired Juliette Gordon Low to create Girl Scouting) to come up with a new name.
