While I used IRC to download anime in the early 2000s, I adopted bittorrent as my main anime download protocol by 2003. Animesuki was a great site to download unlicensed anime fansubs. Boxtorrents on the other hand, was the premier anime private tracker.
Been in BBT for over a decade way back when it was boxtorrents. I had uploaded over 5TB without a seedbox in my first year or two there back when that meant something. It's certainly sad to see it on the way out :(
