Hi Daffodil, I think there is a difference: patent is less emotive and means that it can be clearly shown to be a lie; blatant stresses the likelihood of malice and means that the lie is obvious. I think that dictionary has got it pretty well. I'm afraid I disagree with you about blatant implying that the lie is intentional.

11 kwi 2008 · Outright has more than one common usage, with the closest one to 'blatant' being 'without reservation or concealment.' But it doesn't carry the connotation that the thing being disclosed is necessarily something one should be ashamed of. It just mean forthright (franco, directo).
