As I understand it you can't make any part of your skin transparent because that would let people be invisible so the transparent bits turn black. Somewhere I saw some info about what kind of editor or settings you need to use to make sure that the white is white but I don't remember where.
I just made this skin, but the transparent parts are not transparent, but rather black. I've seen skins around that have these parts transparent, how did they do it? (I also used MCSkin3D and photoshop to get the parts transparent) My Skin: Example of one that is transparent:
no skin can be even one tiny bit transparent if one part is left transparent it is tuned to black once you join a game, this is to prevent invisible players from being able to sneak up on someone in pvp and kill them, much like the xbox and the invisible option when the invisible option on xbox is selected you canot hurt anyone but you are invincible.

Today I was playing online like usual, and I noticed my arm is completely dark, so I go in f5 and I see my whole skin is gone, and it also shows a cape. I didn't pay to much attention because I recently joined a faction and I thought it was just a broken mod that gives capes when I join factions.
1. Open your skin. If you're creating the skin in your image editor, save it once you have the base skin completed. At this point, you should have something roughly like this: 2. Open the AO map you should have saved, select the entire image, and copy it. Return to your skin, create a new layer, and paste the AO map into the new layer.
Nice texture pack ArsenicFey, having everything black is a really nice texture pack. I suggest you delete the minecraft in your appdata and then download a new minecraft. Yup pretty much, I need a screenshot. My cousin has Intel HD graphics and his Minecraft works fine
