18 maj 2016 · The estate of the late Kenneth Waters, who was exonerated in 2001 after spending 18 years in prison, has settled their case against the town of Ayer for a total of 3.4 million dollars. The estate, headed by Waters’ sister, Betty Ann Waters, is still in negotiations with one final insurer.
Kenny was initially taken in for questioning by Sergeant Nancy Taylor over the murder of his next-door neighbor, Katherina Reitz Brow on May 21, 1980, in Ayer, Massachusetts. He was released, but two years later, based on new testimony presented by Taylor from his ex-wife Brenda, and ex-girlfriend Roseanna, he was arrested and tried.
Since Waters’ death, representatives of his estate have settled a civil lawsuit with the town of Ayer, and the case was the subject of a 2010 feature film Conviction. Damages of $10.7 million were later assessed against the sixth insurance company.
18 mar 2020 · On the morning of May 21, 1980, 48-year-old Katharina Reitz Brow was stabbed to death in her home in Ayer, Massachusetts, about 40 miles northwest of Boston. Her body was found at 10:45 a.m. by her daughter-in-law, who quickly called the Ayer Police Department.
