Bane and Thomas take Alfred hostage and warn the Batman Family (Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and all other allies) that if Batman steps foot in Gotham (which has been taken over), Alfred dies.
Bane killed Alfred in 2019 during the City of Bane storyline, and he remains dead in the primary continuity of the DC Universe as of 2024.
