Masterpoints are the exclusive currency of the ACBL as the measure of achievement in duplicate bridge competition. Masterpoints are awarded in six “color” categories and are essential to rank advancement. The ACBL has 16 player ranks that require a specific number and color of masterpoints.

The ACBL awards several categories of masterpoints, each associated with the type of event and designated by a distinct color: Online - Also commonly referred as "unpigmented", are awarded in online club games. Black - awarded in brick-and-mortar club games.
masterpoint restricted games use the following percentages: 200MPs+ AND LESS THAN OPEN = 80%, 0-200MPs = 70% 0-100MPs & 0-50MPs = 60%, 0-20MPs = 50%, 0-10MPs = 40%, 0-5MPs = 30%
