The circuit courts are West Virginia’s only general jurisdiction trial courts of record. The West Virginia trial court system consists of Circuit Courts, Magistrate Courts, Family Courts, Muncipal Courts, and Legislative Claims Commission. Circuit Courts have general jurisdiction over all types of cases but generally handle cases beyond the jurisdiction of other courts.
Since 1994 Software Computer Group, Incorporated (SWCG), a Charleston, WV based firm, has collaborated with West Virginia Circuit Courts to provide an electronic case information service named “Circuit Express”.
