26 lip 2023 · These 1-inch thick pieces of lumber are unsung heroes, responsible for preserving & maximizing the value of your milled lumber. When you air dry your lumber, stickers & blocking (larger pieces of timber – often 4x4, to keep your stack up off the ground) facilitate proper & even drying.
USE OF WOODEN STICKERS TO STACK lumber for drying will sometimes result in mold or bugs between the sticker and the lumber. Store-bought stickers work well, but are expensive. An alternate solution is to use ¾" SCH40 electrical conduit, about $2 for a 10' section at a local home supply store.
16 paź 2015 · There are more oak stickers for hardwood lumber drying than any other species. Apitong is also popular. Both a strong so they resist breaking and compressing. For softwoods, various species are used, mostly all softwoods. Plywood stickers are popular too, along with aluminum.
Stack the wood up with plenty of spacers, or stickers, to allow for good airflow, and I like to put a piece of plastic on the ground under the wood to keep the humidity from the ground from effecting the lumber.

18 kwi 2010 · The best sticker for hardwoods is made from a strong species, is straight, is dry and is (when dry) 3/4" thick, 1-1/4" wide and of whatever length that the pile is wide, plus 2". The extra length is to allow the sticker to protrude a small amount so alignment can be confirmed.
7 lis 2024 · Drying lumber is important as freshly cut lumber has a high moisture content and is dimensionally unstable, as lumber will shrink during the drying process. While stickers can be purchased commercially, this article demonstrated how to cut stickers from one log using a small stationary sawmill.
