It was the second television station in Cleveland to debut, ten months after WEWS-TV (channel 5), the 41st overall in the United States, and the fourth of NBC's five original owned-and-operated stations to sign on, three weeks after WNBQ (now WMAQ-TV) in Chicago.

The logo used by WKYC during Olympic years (such as 2024) to promote NBC's Olympic coverage. However, channel 3 retook the top spot in that slot during the November 2005 sweeps period. Additionally, despite fears due to a weakened NBC prime time schedule, WKYC retained its top spot at 11 p.m. which it has held for 17 straight ratings periods.

30 wrz 2019 · WKYC, the Tegna owned NBC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio, has introduced a new logo and branding. The station now uses the name “WKYC Studios” as sort of an “umbrella” brand.
