My review of BH Red Wine Cask Finish. This is my first review post here so give me some grace and please hit me with some constructive criticisms if you have any! Sweet on the nose with notes of almond, sweet chocolate, and grapes.
Basil Hayden Red Wine Cask Finish (NAS, 80 Proof) Nose: Yeah, you get some sort of finish on the nose. a delicate, floral red fruit note with a bit of cherry cola, and a hint of oak. It’s reasonably inviting.
In summary, I think wine casks and whisky work really well together and they seem to do especially well with peated distillates. I’m sure some bad wine maturations occur, but they’re certainly more interesting to me right now than a lot of other cask types.

I have been in love with red wine cask finishes recently. The Ardbeg and Laphroaig are the only ones here I’ve tried, but they’re both great. Gordon & Macphail have also put out a Ledaig and a Caol Ila finished in Syrah hermitage casks; if you can find those, you’d probably like them.
