2 mar 2013 · One great example for pistol loaders is Winchester W231 and Hodgdon HP-38 (the same powder branded differently). I have used this powder for many different cartridges and load levels- it meters great, is super-versatile, and is a great bulk-buy in 8 lb canisters.

The starting powder load for a 90gr JHP bullet is higher (at 3.2 gr) that for both of the heavier bullets listed (both 95 and 100 gr FMJ) which each have a starting load of 2.9gr of powder. Ly...
27 gru 2010 · I don't load 185 grain bullets in .45 ACP, but I still have most of a .50 cal. ammo can of a load using 200 grain SWC with 5.8 grains of 231. OAL was 1.24". I tried lighter loads but they just seemed too mild in both my Springfield Mil-spec and Sig P220.
26 cze 2009 · My Lee second edition Modern Reloading manual lists 3.2 gr. of Winchester 231 powder and a 95 gr. FMJ bullet as the starting load. Strangely it also lists that 3.2 gr. as the maximum load.
