I don't know enough about either to know which is best for a complete beginner. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If it helps inform your response, here are some points about what I'd like to achieve long-term: I'm very much interested in using the medium for storytelling, so my game would likely be dialogue heavy.
13 sie 2016 · The key factors that separate stories in games from other media is the freedom of how you tell the story, the content included, and how it effects everything. Many games have dynamic stories where the player tells the story of the character by the actions chosen. Any othe media is limited in that it can't be dynamic.
Long story short, GameMaker is bad at helping you write code that runs on demand rather than on frame update. It pushes you towards running everything tied to the games frame rate which is not a habit you want to get into. If you set GameMaker's fps to 60, it will be stuck at 60 fps even if you have a 120hz monitor or a high end gpu.
I’m excited to answer this question today because it’s a super common question. Quite a lot of people seem to have a great story for an original game and they’d be thrilled to see their idea or get made into a finished product by a professional game development team.
The biggest problem I see beginners have is they only look for solutions to a problem "in GameMaker". But the thing is, the vast majority of the things people want to accomplish have been done countless times along with tutorials, papers, theorems, etc. out there you can learn from.
