Though this may not be the greatest upgrade ever, Heat is one of my top 5 movies ever, and I want to own the best versions of it even if that means it's a minor upgrade. In general, turning off HDR on a disc that was encoded in HDR results in a dim, washed out, flat look.
One thing to say immediately is that this film is best watched in a pitch black room. The grading is darker than the Blu-Ray from 2017. I watched the movie twice, once in the mid day and immediately at night, and the latter was an easier watch. That aside, it was a fun movie to watch.

17 sie 2022 · Heat’s dull brightness sees impact from a new, modern color grade that clips brightness with either a warm or cool tone. White – pure white – doesn’t factor in. The image looks washed out as a result, utilizing the HDR for black levels (and they look fantastic) and barely touching the opposite end. Is this a disappointment?
8 lis 2013 · White Heat is one of the greatest gangster movies ever made. It’s a true film noir, a Freudian character study, and a pioneering police procedural, with slick suspense, a dry wit, and a deep-cutting (but not bloody) cruelty that’s still jarring today.
