INTRODUCTION TO SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN. T his chapter introduces the systems development life cycle, the fundamental four-phase model (planning, analysis, design, and implementation) that is common to all information system development projects.
Design – define solution system based on requirements and analysis decisions. Implementation – construct, test, train users, and install new system. Support – keep system running and improve it. Each of the phases include a set of steps, which rely on techniques that produce specific deliverables that provide understanding about the project.
Chapter 1: Introduction to Systems Analysis and Design Learning Objectives. Systems development life cycle. Identify the four phases. How it came about. Methodology alternatives.
The role of a systems analyst is to critically examine the objectives of a particular subsystem, or group of subsystems, and the activities involved in achieving those objectives.
Systems analysis is a process of collecting factual data, understand the processes involved, identifying problems and recommending fea- sible suggestions for improving the system functioning.
Engineers graduate from college every year, enter the workforce, and learn system analysis, design, and development methods from the bottom up over a period of 10 to 30 years. Many spend
systems analysis and design and explains how it fits into the process of developing a new information system, i.e., systems development. Systems analysis means to understand what the system must do.
