The APTT test, short for Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time, is a vital laboratory test that plays a crucial role in assessing your blood’s ability to clot. It measures the time it takes for your blood to form a clot when specific clotting factors are activated.
Laboratory data show a normal complete blood cell count and PT and an APTT of 60 seconds (reference range, 23-33 seconds). A mixing study with normal plasma corrects the APTT, and additional factor assays demonstrate normal factors VIII, IX, and XI but a low factor XII (2%; reference range, 60%-160%).
