Early in Michaelmas Term you need to submit a project proposal that describes what you plan to do and how you plan to evaluate it. In order to help with this process, you are assigned two Project Checkers, who, together with your Supervisor and Director of Studies, will provide advice on your ideas.
Additionally, depending on the nature of the project, your supervisor may require you to perform some initial research work in Part 1, either to provide a convincing argument towards the prospect and feasibility of your Part 2, or for efficiency to already do some work of Part 2 (for example developing an initial theory or building a prototype of an algorithm).

the chapter Research Objectives and Approach explains what you plan to do to tackle your research problem, why you plan to do it that way, and how you are going to do it.
Applicants should therefore prepare a statement of proposed research of no more than 3000 words (this is different from a personal statement) indicating their intended topic and research strategy. This should: indicate that you know how to achieve them.
