7 mar 2023 · When you see analog input DAQ devices from various manufacturers called 12-bit, 16-bit, or 24-bit, it generally just means they have an ADC (analog to digital converter) that returns that many bits. When an ADC chip returns 16 bits, it is probably better than a 12-bit converter, but not always.
19 wrz 2018 · If you convert a single layer 16-bit image to 8-bits, you will see something that looks exactly like the 16-bit image you started with. If so, why bother with 16-bits?
25 lip 2018 · Technically, the resolution is 20/((2^16)-1). This is the separation between each distinct output (assuming an ideal ADC). Confusing the first choice with the second is called a "fence-post error".
Quantization replaces each real number with an approximation from a finite set of discrete values. Most commonly, these discrete values are represented as fixed-point words. Though any number of quantization levels is possible, common word-lengths are 8-bit (256 levels), 16-bit
After alot of confusion about the 8bits/channel, 16bits/channel, 32bits/channel, and RAW color modes in photoshop, I finally figured it out, and decided to make an illustration to show how I've understood it.
20 mar 2023 · The 16-bit example always shows a bumpy, jagged reproduction of a sine-wave or other signal, while the 24-bit equivalent looks beautifully smooth and higher resolution. It’s a simple visual aid, but one that relies on the ignorance of the topic and the science to lead consumers to the wrong conclusions.
