An ancient Elvish blade made by weapon-smiths in Gondolin, Sting may have been lost during the Fall of Gondolin, the same battle in which Turgon fell and Glamdring was taken.
28 maj 2020 · What exactly happened to Sting after Gondolin’s Fall was not apparent, but by the latter part of the Third Age, the sword was possessed by three trolls living in the east of Eriador. That was in TA 2941 when Bilbo, together with his Dwarf friends, came upon Sting along with Orcrist and Glamdring.
7 sie 2024 · Still armed with Sting, Sam stormed the Tower of Cirith Ungol in order to rescue Frodo, though he found little in the way of a fight, as the tower had seen a battle between its own forces over Frodo's Mithril-coat.
Did Sam and Frodo leave Sting in the tower before crossing the plains of Mordor? The glowing blue blade would have been a dead giveaway right? Sam found Sting after Frodo dropped it, and carried it the rest of the journey, even back to the Shire. The text never says he uses it after Cirith Ungol, so I'd assume it was carried in it's sheath.
I believe that Glamdring, Orcrist, and Sting were preserved in Arnor, and a long time after Arnor fell and became desolate, the trolls came in and found those ancient artifacts and hoarded them. Reply reply

It was eventually lost and found by the Stone-trolls Tom, Bert and William during the Third Age. During the Quest for Erebor, the Company of Thorin Oakenshield stumbled upon the Trolls and during their encounter, the Trolls were turned to stone by the light of the sun.
