Estrogen increases the proteins bound to T4 and causes the total T4 (which is free T4+ binding proteins) to be high. What happens when T4 (thyroxine) levels are too low? If you have lower-than-normal T4 levels, it usually indicates hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).
