9 lip 2020 · Disability models, particularly the social model of disability, have been pivotal in the history of disabled people’s political mobilisation, the formulation of disability-related law and policy and the development of interdisciplinary Disability Studies.
The most frequently discussed models are the Medical model of disability, which views disablement as caused by medical disorders; and the Social model of disability which instead views disablement being a result of societal exclusion and discrimination.
This chapter identifies four broad models in the disability literature: The medical model: this model views impairment as a problem located in an individual. The human rights model: accords fundamental human rights to persons with disabilities.
