A good pilot is methodical, doesn't leave anything to chance or habit, crosses all the t's and dots all the i's. They fly smoothly, precisely, and coherently to their operation (just because you're comfortable with 20 knot gusty crosswinds doesn't mean you should do it with first time passengers).

Not an airline pilot, but I just want to chime in as someone who works in a high-school and give advice to people your age for a living: Go for it 100%, but don't go to an aviation college. I've yet to hear anyone tell me it is worth it (save for people who work for those schools).
