The Chicago River is a system of rivers and canals with a combined length of 156 miles (251 km) [1] that runs through the city of Chicago, including its center (the Chicago Loop). [2]
Chicago-Calumet River System Mapping Flowing and meandering through urban and suburban communities, forest preserves and parks, industrial and commercial districts, as well as the heart of downtown, the 156-mile long Chicago-Calumet River system and the watersheds that surround it are highly varied.
Our main objectives are to: Protect, expand, and restore natural areas. Support environmental justice and community health. Enhance and protect biodiversity. Capture stormwater and improve water quality. Establish sustained investments in green infrastructure. Increase climate resiliency.
These reports include general information on the river, riparian and watershed characteristics, as well as information on local weather. The reports can give context to chemistry or macroinvertebrate data.
