15 cze 2023 · The water-supply requirements of the Albuquerque metropolitan area of central New Mexico have historically been met almost exclusively by groundwater withdrawal from the Santa Fe Group aquifer system.
The Aquifer Mapping Program officially began in 2007 with broad goals to map and characterize New Mexico’s aquifers, providing information on hydrogeology, depth to water, groundwater flow directions, recharge processes, water quality characteristics, as well as water quantity estimation.

The Santa Fe Group aquifer system is the principal source of water supply in the Albuquerque Basin. The system is made up of poorly-cemented sands and gravels of the Tertiary-Quaternary Santa Fe Group and overlying alluvial deposits associated with the Rio Grande and its tributaries.
