Clinical signs of seizures are acute and of short duration (usually < 2 minutes). A generalized seizure (major motor, grand mal) event typically occurs in phases. The first phase, prodrome or aura, precedes the actual seizure or ictus by several hours or days and is characterized by behavior changes.
