Dosages as high as 6–9 mg/kg may be necessary without sedation. Administer one of the drugs or drug combinations as deemed appropriate for any underlying comorbidity.
The initial dosage in dogs is 0.15–0.25 mg/kg, PO, every 12 hours, titrated up by increasing the dose ~25% every 2 weeks while monitoring for clinical signs suggestive of decompensation. The target dosage is 1 mg/kg, PO, every 2 hours (if tolerated).
