This document provides a step-by-step guide to using the Desautels Faculty of Music recital program template. The formatting information in this guide has been adapted from Drake University’s “Style Guide for Instrumental Recital Programs” and “Style Guide for Vocal programs.”.
Student Recital Programs follow specific text formatting. Please use the following section as a guide to help you correctly format every section of your recital program. The program will follow formal writing style guidelines for music as adopted from D. Kern Holoman’s Writing About Music: A Style Sheet (2008).
The format for a recital title is always as follows: [Type of] Recital: Performer Name, instrument/voice type. Example: Junior Recital: Bruce Wayne, trombone. TIPS. a. instrument/voice type is lowercase. Use “trombone” . not “Trombone” Standard recital types are: class with Bio Masterclass no Bio Alumni Recital.
The following guidelines and examples represent a variety of genres and show the required format for capitalization, use of italics, punctuation, and abbreviations. IMPORTANT: Please submit your material using Times font, point size 12.
