Visual adaptation is typically defined operationally, as a brief and temporary change in sensitivity or perception when exposed to a new stimulus, and by the lingering aftereffects when the stimulus is removed (Webster, 2011). (See illustrations in online supplementary material.)
1 maj 2023 · Introduction. Vision is one of the five senses the body uses to interpret its surroundings. In the past, our primitive ancestors had what is called "dichromatic vision,” allowing for interpretation of only UV light and red light.
Vision is the special sense of sight that is based on the transduction of light stimuli received through the eyes. The eyes are located within either orbit in the skull. The bony orbits surround the eyeballs, protecting them and anchoring the soft tissues of the eye (Figure 25.1).
Adaptation to simple visual features, in part, reflects transient changes in the visual response which shows a lawful pattern of build-up with increasing adapt time and decay when the adapting stimulus is removed .
All aspects of vision adapt—adaptation to light and dark, colors, contrast, direction of motion, orientation, and depth. There are also contingent aftereffects, for example, adaptation to color, contingent upon orientation, which take minutes of viewing to form and may last for hours.
13 sty 2009 · In the heady days of the 1970s, visual aftereffects became the ‘psychologist's microelectrode’. If physiologists found single cells tuned for stereoscopic disparity (and they did) then psychophysicists would find a disparity aftereffect (and they did).
