Osteochondrodysplasia of the Scottish Fold results from an inherited defect in cartilage metabolism in this breed that affects formation of joint cartilage as well as bone growth. Clinical symptoms include shortening of bones (e.g., metatarsi, metacarpi, vertebrae) and an ankylosing polyarthropathy of the carpal and tarsal bones.
Clinical signs include polyuria, polydipsia, weight loss, skeletal muscle atrophy, lethargy, recurrent infections, abscesses, a potbellied appearance, obesity, hepatomegaly, diabetes mellitus (50% of cases), GI symptoms, congestive cardiac failure and UTIs.
25 kwi 2018 · In most cases, a veterinarian will presumptively diagnose MMVD based on three things: 1) an older, 2) small-breed dog with a 3) characteristic left-sided murmur. However, it is then worthwhile determining just how severe the MMVD is.
Signs include cerebellar dysfunction and dysmetria in all four limbs but with preservation of paw position sense, which should distinguish it from leukoencephalomyelopathy and from advanced motor neuron disease in the same breed. Collies in Australia and New Zealand develop similar clinical signs at 2–4 months of age.
